This is an original 1966 Gibson Thunderbird Bass, serial number 006687, the "non-reverse"
body style single pickup Thunderbird II and one of only 361 that were ever made. The finish is original as well
as the tuners, pickguard, pickup, bridge, tailpiece, thumbrest and bridge cover. The pots look to be original, not sure about
the knobs. The pickguards on these basses were notorious for warping and cracking. Some people chose to cut them and that's
what happened to this guard. The truss cover is a repro. While headstock breaks are the norm on these basses this
one had a pretty bad one, however it was fixed very well and has not moved-it just does not look pretty when looking
closely at the head. Now, this bass PLAYS AND SOUNDS PHENOMINAL! and had a pro setup done when I bought it. This bass
totally ROCKS! (Sorry-got carried away there!) Comes with a newer Gibson Thunderbird hardshell bass case
that was modified to more securely protect this great bass which is priced at a substantial discount compared to a similar
bass without a break.
The case has "Basil Cooper" written on it. Was this bass once
owned by the Diamond Rexx and Mary's Window bassist?
